Spanish smartphone maker Geeksphone has revealed more details on its forthcoming dual-boot Android and Firefox OS device.
The phone, known as the Revolution, will go on sale next week at a cost of €289 in Europe. The device will run both Android and Boot2Gecko, otherwise known as Firefox OS. (Mozilla only lets the mobile carriers it has deals with use the Firefox OS brand name, so for now, Geeksphone is stuck with the operating system's clunkier handle.)
Nevertheless, the specs for the Revolution put it at the higher end of Firefox OS handsets — an area Mozilla is concentrating on with devices from the likes of ZTE.
The phone is powered by Intel's Atom Z2560 processor and comes with 1GB of memory and 4GB of RAM. The Resolution has a 4.7-inch display with IPS qHD screen.
There's two cameras onboard – an eight-megapixel rear-facing snapper and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing equivalent. There's no LTE support however, just HSDPA up to 21Mbps.
There's also the GPS, Bluetooth, wi-fi you'd expect, and a slightly lower-end 2000mAh battery you might not.
The Revolution isn't Geeksphone's first Boot2Gecko device: the company released two developer handsets, the Keon and Peak, last year, as well as the Peak+. The Peak+ appears to have run into difficulties, and Geeksphone is now allowing those that pre-ordered it to get the Revolution instead.
