The basic function of the app is that it connects the users to the desktop client through ADB, via a USB cable and it does not actually unlock or root the Android device – all that is done by the Desktop client that the user downloads from CyanogenMod’s website. Google says that the app ‘encourages users to void their warranty,’ which is unacceptable though the app technically doesn’t violate a rule.

Today, we were contacted by the Google Play Support team to say that our CyanogenMod Installer application is in violation of Google Play’s developer terms.They advised us to voluntarily remove the application, or they would be forced to remove it administratively. We have complied with their wishes while we wait for a more favorable resolution.
You can however download the app from a direct link and view the installation instructions here. To install the app you need to go to Settings>Security and check “Unknown sources” option. Cyanogen Inc plans to release the app on Amazon app store and Samsung app store, but it might get rejected in these market places too.
